Moroccan authorities said Wednesday they arrested four people for ties to the Islamic State (IS) militant group.

The authorities added that the four people had previously served prison sentences under the country’s anti-terrorism law.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspects were planning to apply the military training acquired by a cell member in IS camps to carry out a series of terrorist attacks, said the Moroccan Interior Ministry in a statement.

The suspects, who hail from four cities in the north of Morocco, will be brought before court after the public prosecutor’s office completes its investigation, the statement added.

Since January, Morocco’s police forces declared they caught three terrorist cells and arrested around 20 suspects.

In addition, according to Morocco’s government, since 2002 police forces have raided over 140 terrorist cells, successfully foiled hundreds of terrorist attacks, and arrested over 2,200 individuals. Enditem
