Rabat – Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani will represent HM King Mohammed VI in the Nuclear Safety Summit, due on March 26-27 in Seoul, South Korea.

A foreign ministry statement said the meeting will be attended by heads of state and government, as well as by foreign ministers from 52 countries, including three African countries and six Arab countries, along with the UN Secretary-General and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The meeting aims to take stock of progress made by countries in nuclear safety since 2010, within the framework of the implementation of the Action Plan adopted at the Nuclear Safety Summit held in Washington in April 2010.

Morocco, jointly with the United States and Spain, organized last February the biannual meeting of the group in charge of assessing the implementation of the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism. The meeting substantially contributed to preparing for the Nuclear Safety Summit.
