Marrakech – The First Mediterranean Water Forum opened on Monday in Marrakech with the participation of a panoply of experts and officials from the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean.

Held within the framework of the Mediterranean cross-continental Process for the 6th World Water Forum, the two day event is intended to set up a platform of dialogue, exchange and cooperation between all stakeholders concerned with water issues in the region, organizers said.

The event also offers an opportunity for the Mediterranean Water community to deliver strong and targeted messages and reach the consequent objectives for the sustainable development of the region.

On the sidelines of the Forum, the official signing ceremony of a loan worth 20 million Euros will be held. The loan was granted by the French Development Agency (AFD) to Morocco’s national water utility,” Office National de l’Eau Potable”, with the aim of funding a sawerage programme in 30 centers across the kingdom serving 570,000 people.
