Finmeccanica’s security and information systems division has received contracts to install air traffic management / air traffic control (ATM/ATC) systems in Malaysia, Morocco, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
The €120m contracts were announced during the World ATM Congress in Madrid, Spain.
The four countries will join a list of more than 150 countries that have already implemented the technological solutions.
In Malaysia, Finmeccanica and Malaysian company Advanced Air Traffic (AAT), will replace the existing air traffic control centre (ATCC) at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Slated to be completed by 2018, the project will involve the design, construction and development of a new ATCC.
It will also install radars, a ground-based augmentation system (GBAS), very high frequency (VHF) radios, automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast technology (ADS-B), a global navigation satellite system (GNSS), aeronautical fixed telecommunication network / aeronautical message handling system, and navigation facilities.
On the other hand, the Moroccan Airports Authority (ONDA) has appointed the Italian company to better the national ATC radar system.
Under the terms of the contract, Finmeccanica will deliver six co-mounted perimeter surveillance radars (PSRs) and monopulse secondary surveillance radars (MSSRs) in the southern region of Morocco.
One additional PSR will also be deployed by the company at the main hub of the country’s Oriental region.
After the deal is completed, Finmeccanica will become the largest supplier of radar sensors in Morroco.

The company will also provide six ATC radar systems, control centres and communications to the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF).
Finmeccanica received a separate contract to supply a new fully operational ATC radar system for Turkey.
The new system is part of Turkey’s Systematic Modernisation of ATM Resources Turkey (SMART) project, which aims to improve the country’s ATC infrastructure and services.
Installed at Ankara, the system supports ATM operations in 50 airspace sectors across Turkey, including Antalya, Bodrum, Dalaman, Ercan, Istanbul and Izmir.
