The Oumlil Fall 2012 show took place on Sunday, February 12th at Milk Studios in New York.
For his Fall/Winter 2012 collection, Hisham Oumlil wanted to portray optimism in the midst of stagnation. “Amidst all this incertitude, insecurity, and lack of drive, there are men working behind the scenes–building, innovating, and creating–and my desire is to convey this idea in the clothes I make,” says Oumlil. The designer brings to life this feeling of firm resolve through impeccably tailored menswear inspired by suggestive takes on architecture and design. The pieces are made in the USA and in his home country Morocco.
About the Designer: Hisham Oumlil
Hisham Oumlil was born October 1972 in Casablanca and grew up in an era when Morocco was a tremendously inspiring and exotic destination for Western artists. For Hisham, the fashion designers, musicians, photographers, architects and interior designers who had come to Morocco to be invigorated in turn nurtured his burgeoning interest in the arts and the seemingly vibrant world beyond. In his late teens Hisham recognized distinctly that this fusion of music, photography and sculpture through fashion was to be his calling.
In 2004, with over a decade of Fashion Industry experience in the United States, Hisham, under the watchful eye of NYC Master Tailor Rocco Cicarelli, studied with him to intensify his knowledge of tailoring before launching his brand “Oumlil” in the fall of 2006. Hisham found Rocco to be the absolutely perfect complement to hone his vision of bringing artistry in the form of craftsmanship and composition to the way young men might dress. He explored the integration of Morocco and New York, classic and inventive in such collections as “Weather in Transition” (2008), “Colonial Casablanca” (2008) and “New Men in a Strange Land” (2009). Hisham also allowed for men to be intimately and privately involved in the fashion process through direct custom fittings with his clients.
In 2008 Hisham was awarded the FGI “Rising Star Award” in menswear and in 2009 was featured in Patricia Mears F.I.T. Museum book and exhibition, “American Beauty: Aesthetics and Innovation in Fashion.” Two pieces from his “Oumlil” Ready To Wear collection are in the permanent collection of the Museum.
Hisham currently resides in New York City and continues to both serve his growing private clientele and show his RTW collections during New York Fashion Week.
