COLOGNE, Germany – The European Union has launched a new program to gather data on the film and television industries of countries in the southern Mediterranean region. Many of the countries of the region – Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia and the Occupied Palestinian Territory – have dynamic and fast-growing media industries but there are few reliable sources of information available concerning them. The new initiative will be run by the EU’s Euromed Audiovisual program, which bankrolls projects aimed at developing the film and TV sectors in the south Mediterranean.
Euromed will present the new data collection project at its first regional conference,Towards a New Mediterranean Cinema, in Tunis, Tunisia on Nov.14 and 15.
