Rabat – The European Jazz Ensemble, Greek group “Kostas Theodorou,” Belgian trio Slang, French Jean Marie Machado and British Andy Sheppard, are among the must-see concerts in the seventeenth Chellah Jazz Festival, as it will kick off on June 13-17 in Rabat.
The annual festival, organized by the Delegation of the European Union in partnership with Culture Ministry, in collaboration with the embassies of EU State Members and Cultural Institutes, is an aura bringing together European artists and Moroccan musicians, as it will take place each evening in the precincts of Chellah Rabat, the European delegation said in a statement on Monday.
The European Jazz Ensemble, an emblematic group of the jazz scene which gathers more than six different European nationalities, will open this edition, which promotes the diversity of music styles,
Another reflection of this diversity will be a live performance by the Greek group “Kostas Theodorou” notably jazz in Balkan accents blended perfectly with the sounds of flamenco quartet Simo Baazaoui, the source added.
On June 15, Chellah will be the scene of a colorful meeting between the Belgian trio Slang known for its jazz and rock tunes Yacir Rami the young, new talent Moroccan Oud player.
On Sunday June 17, the festival will be concluded by a performance delivered by the young Portuguese Luisa Sobral’s quartette, followed by a meeting between the top two duets: the French Jean Marie Machado and the Englishman Andy Sheppard who will join for an evening on the Maalem Gnawa Hamid Kasri and the drummer Karim Ziad for a huge finale, the source said.
