The European Union (EU) remains the top consumer of Morocco’s agricultural products with 85 percent share of the country’s exports, local media reported on Tuesday.

According to financial daily les Ecos, the share of EU imports of the Moroccan agriculture slightly dropped from 89 percent in the 2014-2015 crop year to 85 percent in 2015-2016.

The same source noted that the Russian market’s demand of Moroccan agricultural products continued its increase, moving from nine percent in the 2014-2015 crop year to 13 percent in 2015-2016.

The source pointed out that Morocco’s agricultural exports during the period from September 2015 to May 2016 increased by 19 percent year-on-year to reach 902,000 tonnes.

Morocco-EU trade turnover reached 33 billion U.S. dollars in 2015.

EU, which accounts for 52.7 percent of Morocco’s imports and 63.6 percent of exports, remains the leading trade partner for the North African country.
