The observer mission in a press conference Saturday also recommended that additional measures of transparency, such as making the national voter registry available to political parties, be taken to increase trust in the process.ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) — The European Union observer mission has called Algeria’s parliamentary elections an important step toward reform.

Algeria’s rulling party dominated Thursday’s elections, taking nearly half of the seats in the 462 person assembly, dramatically increasing its share.

An alliance of Islamist parties expected to do well has accused the government of fraud.

In its statement, the EU said the elections took place in an atmosphere of calm efficiency.

It also suggested publishing the results of individual voting bureaus to allay fears of fraud.
