Moroccan Minister in Charge of Relations with Parliament and Civil Society, Lahbib Choubani on Thursday said that “Morocco was not much affected by the Arab Spring thanks to its deep tradition of state and strong civil society organizations”.
Speaking at a meeting on “Arab awakening and Morocco” at the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV) in Ankara on Thursday, Choubani said that the reform process in Morocco began in the early 1990s.
“At that period, committees were established to study violations of human rights and many reforms actually began then,”Choubani stressed.
“During the Arab Spring, Moroccans remained calm and adopted the principle of ‘no to poverty, yes to reforms’,”Choubani also said.
