Escape the Queen’s Jubilee on the Republicans’ Moroccan Desert Safari

Specialist Morocco is offering Republicans the perfect escape from the onslaught of flag-waving Royalists who will be celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee at the beginning of June: The Republicans’ Desert Safari!

There is a choice of staying 2 or 3 nights sleeping in style in a choice of large Caidal eco tents under a starlit Saharan sky.

From Marrakech you travel across the High Atlas Mountains to reach a vast desert plain that forms the outskirts of the Sahara; a true land of contrasts with oasis towns, contorted ancient volcanic wilderness, flourishing valleys, dramatic stone , mud-built Kasbahs and fortified villages known as Ksars

Travelling privately the Saharan adventure starts from Marrakech and begins with a scenic ascent of the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass. After a visit to the impressive World Heritage Kasbah at Ait Benhaddou you’ll traverse the beautiful Draa Valley. Lined with old Kasbahs, Ksour and palm groves, the Draa is regarded as one of the most scenic routes in Morocco.

After a brief stop in Zagora, once the final stop-off for caravans before they entered the solitude of the Hamada’s, to reach Tagounite, one of the last major settlements before the Moroccan Sahara. From here the vast Sahara Desert and the welcome comforts of a tented eco-camp await. Set in a peaceful wilderness location and surrounded by a classic desert landscape, a variety of activities are possible from the Sahara Safari Camp.

Short excursions can be taken to nearby small oases and dunes by 4×4 or, alternatively Alternatively relax in camp, enjoy a walk to nearby mountains, explore adobe villages or take a camel ride. Star-gaze at night and enjoy the setting and rising sun. For guests spending a third night in camp there is time to take an adventurous optional day trip to the remote wild dunes of Chegaga possibly encountering camel caravans and desert nomads on the way.

The 2-night break cost from £165 pp (two sharing) staying in a Caidel tent with ensuite bathroom or from £150 pp, also with private bathroom but not ensuite (3 nights from £320).

Prices include pick-up/drop-off in Marrakech, travel in private 4×4 with A/C, accommodation, breakfast and dinner plus 1 lunch on 3-day safari & 2 lunches on the 4-day safari.
