The renewables arm of Italian energy major Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL) has entered into a collaboration agreement with the Institute Research Solar Energy Et Energies Nouvelles (IRESEN) to speed up the energy transition in Morocco.

The new alliance forms part of the “Solar Decathlon Africa” work at BenGuerir’s Green & Smart Building Park. Enel Green Power (EGP) and IRESEN will cooperate on research and development (R&D) activities, covering several renewable energy sources — solar, wind, hydro, biomass and marine, as well as on the promotion of joint renewable energy distribution projects throughout the country.

The pair will also provide training programmes focused on production, installation, management and maintenance of green facilities, as well as on network integration.

In Morocco, EGP already has some 850 MW of wind projects in consortium with local independent power producer Nareva. The 180-MW Midelt wind park is already under construction, the company noted.
