DOHA: Qatar was in a festive mood on the second day of the Eid Al Adha as people along with relatives and friends visited popular places in the country.

Places such as the Corniche, Souq Waqif and Katara, parks, museums, malls and a private zoo pulsated with much life as people thronged to watch shows organised mainly by the Qatar Tourism Authority and private institutions.

The private zoos in the country attracted huge number of visitors on the first day of Eid following the closure of the Doha Zoo for maintenance. Al Dosari Zoo in Al Shahaniya, hosted entertainment programmes organised by expatriate communities from India, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Sudan and Philippines on the first and second day of Eid.

The administration of the Al Dosari Zoo said that the zoo attracted about 7,000 people on the first day of Eid.

Various competitions were also conducted for children and parents who visited the place.

The closure of the Doha Zoo for maintenance since last August has forced people to look for alternatives.

The six-day Eid celebration in Souq Waqif began yesterday with cultural shows, entertainment programmes and events for children. The celebration starts at 4pm and ends at 10pm.

Meanwhile, the Traffic Police deserved public praise for smooth flow of traffic on the first day of Eid in the city.

Though, 25 minor accidents were reported from the various parts of the city, they did not cause any traffic jams and casualties.

Al Fazaa, the rescue police and Lekhwiya, the Internal Security Force were also patrolling all roundabouts, intersections and some major gathering points in markets, malls and festival celebration areas through out the day.
