A consortium comprising France’s EDF, Masdar and Green of Africa has been selected to build and operate the 800-MW Noor-Midelt complex in Morocco that will combine photovoltaic (PV) and concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies.
EDF Renewables, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) and Moroccan independent power producer Green of Africa have won the tender run by the Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy (MASEN). The consortium will be responsible for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of Noor Midelt I, EDF said on Wednesday.
Construction is expected to start in the last quarter of 2019, while power deliveries to the grid are expected in 2022.
Last year, MASEN shortlisted five consortia to bid for the Noor-Midelt 1 job. The tender was launched at the start of 2016. According to the pre-qualification documents, the first phase will consist of two hybrid PV and CSP plants, each with a capacity of between 150 MW and 190 MW coupled with a minimum of five hours storage capacity.
