Washington – Economy minister Nizar Baraka met in Washington with vice-president of the World Bank for the MENA region Inger Andersen, on the sidelines of the WB and IMF’s spring meetings (April 20-22).
Baraka underlined the importance of ties between Morocco and the WB and voiced satisfaction with the implementation of the 2010-2013 strategic partnership framework with the Bank, which resulted in giving concrete substance to 11 funding operations totaling over 1.5 billion dollars for reform programs and investment projects.
The minister also discussed means and ways to reinforce relations with the WB, mainly to support the Kingdom carry out its reforms.
Baraka, who was leading a delegation including notably governor of Morocco’s Bank Al Maghrib (central bank) Abdellatif Jouahri, took part in the meetings of Arab and African governors with the WB’s president and the IMF’s managing director.
These meeting were an occasion for the Moroccan official to underscore the importance of the two bodies’ support for development process of Arab and African countries and actions meant to reduce the volatility of raw materials’ prices.
Baraka also participated in the meeting of Maghreb countries’ finance ministers for U.S.-North Africa Partnership for Economic Opportunity (NAPEO) and the meeting of finance ministers of the Deauville partnership member states.
He also held talks with US assistant Treasury Secretary Charles Collyns on the evolution of the Moroccan economy and the prospects of strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
