Morocco is a strategic choice for the science company in the Maghreb

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, March 11, 2012 — As a part of its continued growth strategy in key developing markets and with the aim of being closer to local customers, the leading science company DuPont has opened two new offices in Casablanca and Tangier, critical industrial poles in the country.

Morocco’s dynamic and solid economic environment and its preference for new technologies and practices that achieve sustainable development make it a perfect market for DuPont to consolidate its diverse, multi-industry offerings.

Giving a speech at the opening ceremony in Casablanca on March 6, Ian Hudson, DuPont President Europe, Middle East and Africa described Morocco as a strategic choice for DuPont in the Maghreb and said; “Our new offices in Morocco build on a series of DuPont investments to grow our business in developing markets. Over the past several years, we have invested in developing markets and leveraged our technology. Our full-year financial results were very strong. Sales of $38 billion were up 20% vs. 2010, with a 27% increase in developing markets. DuPont sees solid growth opportunities in Morocco and we believe our science can play a critical role in the country”.

“Our local presence will enable us to build direct relations with existing and potential local customers and partners such as the Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP) – the world’s largest exporter of phosphate rock-, or Renault Nissan Alliance. We have been focusing on partnering with key local industries such as safety and protection, clean technologies, construction, transportation and food and agriculture. This office investment is a reflection of the right economic environment and customer demand for our diverse offerings” stated Xavier Ciurana, Country Leader DuPont Morocco SAS.

“We are pleased to have had the opportunity to work closely with OCP on several fronts over the past few years, helping to improve safety and environmental performance and optimize sulfuric acid technologies. Moving forward, we are happy to have extended the relationship, and look forward to further facilitating OCP’s progress towards achieving sustainable growth” says Marcelino Garcia, Solutions Architect, DuPont Sustainable Solutions (DSS). “With our office in Casablanca, we will be better placed to support this objective.”

“OCP has fully integrated safety and sustainability into the corporate growth strategy. This engagement [with DuPont] has lead to not only a substantial improvement in performance, but has also generated significant added value for the Moroccan society. We are determined to ensure that sustainability and operational efficiency remain at the core of our operations. This transformation will be further augmented and accelerated by the rigorous support possible through DuPont’s increased presence in Morocco.” said Mr Drissi, Chief Operating Officer, OCP.

As a business dedicated to helping companies transform workplaces and operations to become safer, more efficient and environmentally sustainable, DSS believes that its solutions can bring real benefits to local business in Morocco. “Our new local presence is a testament to the solid growth opportunities that we see in Morocco, and across North Africa as a whole for our consulting services” continues Mr. Garcia. “We feel as though there is certainly much potential for us to help companies in the region to improve their bottom line through improved safety, streamlined operations and lowered corporate footprint. Indeed, by growing in a sustainable manner, companies are better placed to stimulate local economic and social development.”

The company’s other office, DuPont Tangier Free Zone SAS (DTZF), is located close to the new Renault Plant which produces Renault / Dacia brands. “Our office is a great opportunity for us to create and strengthen collaborative relationships with the Renault Nissan Alliance” stated Christian Zoch, General Manager DTFZ.

In the course of his visit, Ian Hudson has also attended The Global Food Security Forum in Rabat between 7-9 March, organized by the OCP Group who is a long-standing contributor to global food security through its substantial role in the production and export of phosphate-based fertilizers. After his interactions at the event, Mr. Hudson said: “At DuPont, we believe that science and innovation is the key to solving the world’s biggest challenges. However, no one company, country or non-profit organization can meet the challenge of feeding the world alone. We need to work together. Hence, platforms as such support and strengthen the collaboration which is key to addressing these big issues and developing innovative solutions.

DuPont has recently committed to invest US$10 billion in research and development dedicated to the food, agriculture and nutrition sectors and advancing 4,000 new products by the end of 2020; supporting training and education opportunities for youth around the world, and working with farmers to improve the livelihoods of families in rural communities.
