WAM RABAT: “Draft Broad Lines of Cultural Rights in Islamic Countries and the general provisions of “Draft Islamic Declaration on Cultural Rights” will be presented by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) at a round-table scheduled at the organisation’s permanent headquarters in Rabat, Morocco, on 16 May 2013, it was announced Friday.
Experts in cultural rights from civil society associations in the Islamic world will discuss the “Draft Broad Lines of Cultural Rights in the Member States: Achievements and Future Prospects”, which ISESCO, in press release today, described as the reference for the “Draft Islamic Declaration on Cultural Rights”.
The two documents are aimed at enabling the Member States to draw up their own future culture policies and keeping abreast of the international discussion on cultural rights, while having as reference the Islamic stance on the subject.
The two documents will be submitted to the 8th Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers, which will be held next December in Al-Madinah al-Munawarrah, the Islamic Culture Capital for 1434 A.H./2013 A.D.
ISESCO said the aim of these roundtables is “to promote cultural rights in the Islamic world and to open up in-depth discussions with the civil society in the Islamic world before devising reference documents that emphasise the Islamic world’s vision of such issues.” Within the same framework, a roundtable on the “Cultural Roles of Civil Society in Promoting Cultural Rights in the Islamic World”, was organised by ISESCO as part of the 2nd International Conference on Civic Values and Alliance of Civilizations, in Rabat, on 19-21 December 2012.
