The Moroccan city of Marrakech will this January play host to one of the most exotic marathons in the distance running world, with thousands of runners, spectators and more set to arrive in the city.
Marrakech, Morocco, December 11, 2011 –(PR.com)– Online hotel room bookings specialist DirectRooms.com advises that hotels in Marrakech city centre will be in very high demand due to the sheer number of people making for the city. The website is as such recommending advance booking.

This year’s Marrakech Marathon is expected to attract record numbers of participants, with over 5,000 runners on show. The marathon is considered a true endurance test thanks to the country’s humid climate.

Leading marathon specialists regularly take part in the Marrakech Marathon, to test themselves against both the gruelling 26 mile course and also the leading runners from Morocco.

The Marrakech Marathon has a focus on runner safety however, and the course is lined with not just palm trees but also plenty of water stops too. The race is staged annually and is backed by the patronage of His Majesty the King Mohammed VI.

The Marrakech Marathon is to be held on the 29th January 2012. This year’s event will be the 23rd time the city has hosted the famous race.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head of DirectRooms.com, says, “Such a gruelling marathon is considered a real test by distance runners, and so many thousands arrive in Marrakech to take part each year. This year with over 5,000 runners expected, plus many more spectators and organisers, the demand for hotel rooms will be higher than ever.”
