Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 3 Detail Morocco finished preparations Jan. 30 for the battalion’s deployment to Europe and Africa. The detail is currently tasked with building two large metal buildings called K-Spans to be used during multilateral military exercises. The Seabees’ preparations consisted of planning and estimating the projects to include construction materials, tools, equipment and manpower. I find it fairly easy since I took the planning and estimating class, said Builder 3rd Class (SCW) Romas Andrijauskus.
The planning includes calculations of how long a construction activity will take and the number of personnel, equipment and materials required to complete the tasks.
It’s the most difficult part [the planning], but it’s the stepping stone that must be done, said Construction Electrician 2nd Class (SCW) Roger Cook.
The two K-Span facilities, including a sanitation facility, will be a great benefit to Operation African Lion 2012, a joint training exercise between the U.S. military and the Moroccan military. This military partnership will include training in medical treatment, firearms tactics, aviation and more.
