Copenhagen – The inhuman living conditions and human rights violations inflicted on the population held against their will in the polisario-run camps of Tindouf in south-western Algeria were laid bare during a meeting between members of the Moroccan Sahara Association in Denmark and the European Affairs Committee at the Danish Parliament.
President of the Moroccan Sahara Association Mohamed Badidi informed the President of the European Affairs Committee at the Danish Parliament Eva Kjer Hansen that the aid sent by European countries to the camps is subject to embezzlement by the polisario members who sell it in several Sahel countries with revenues going to terrorism and Al Qaeda’s branch in the region.
He said terrorism activities in the region pose a danger to Europe, recalling the abductions of several European nationals, including tourists and humanitarian workers.
The Moroccan Sahara Association members also informed Danish MPs about the deteriorating living conditions inflicted on the forcibly held population in Tindouf camps, noting in this respect that children’s rights continue to be kidnapped from their families to be indoctrinated in Cuba and Venezuela.
They said that the freedom of expression continues to be denied in the camps.
They also pointed to Algeria’s responsibility in maintaining the status-quo, noting that the UNHCR is still prevented from conducting a head-count of the camp’s population.
During the meeting, light was also shed on Morocco’s autonomy initiative which was largely endorsed by the international community, as well as the political and economic reforms undertaken by Morocco.
