LIMASSOL will host this week the three-day long Davis Cup between Cyprus and Morocco.

Cypriot champion Marcos Baghdatis will lead the Cypriot tennis team, which hopes to beat Morocco.

The Group II tie between Cyprus and Morocco will take place at the Palais des Sports – Spyros Kyprianou Indoor Stadium, in Limassol – Cyprus, between the 10th and 12th of February.

Speaking at a press conference, the captain of the Cypriot team Yiannos Hadjigeorgiou said that the goal is to win the trophy and the team hopes to prevail at least in three of the five games, to move on to the next round and to remain in the ranking.

Hatzigeorgiou expressed confidence that by Friday the team, consisting of Marcos Baghdatis, Rares Cuzdriorean, Sergis Kiratzis and Christos Hatzigeorgiou, will be ready. He also expressed the view that the winner will be determined by the doubles match to be held on Saturday.

On his part, the international Cypriot champion Marcos Baghdatis expressed his happiness to be back on the island to represent his country.

” I will always be here. I feel very well, my year so far was good. I played 13-14 games and won ten,” he said.

He assured that he will give the maximum of his strength to win the two singles and the double, which he will play together with No2 of the Cypriot team, Rares Cuzdriorean.

Thanking Cyprus for the hospitality, the leader of the Moroccan team El Aares Mounir noted that his team will have the opportunity “to play against Marcos Baghdatis, one of the biggest names in Davis Cup.”

He also said that although his team will enter the court without stress and anxiety, it is facing problems because of the absence of its best player.

The official draw for the Davis Cup matches in Cyprus will take place tomorrow in Limassol Town Hall. The first two single matches will take place on Friday afternoon, the doubles on Saturday and the last two single games on Sunday.
