Culture Minister Meets Representatives Of Amazigh Cultural Movement

Rabat – Culture Minister Mohamed Amine Sbihi held on Thursday in Rabat a meeting with representatives of the Amazigh cultural movement on the elaboration of a participative approach to implement the provisions of the constitution relating to strengthening all the constituents national identity.

The Minister expressed his department’s resolve to promote Amazigh cultural and artistic creation and to endreavour to bring the Amazigh heritage from an oral culture to writing in partnership with the Royal institute for Amazigh culture (IRCAM) and in collaboration with Amazigh activists, a statement of the Culture Ministry said on Friday.

The Minister also expressed willingness to work together with his department’s partners to set up the legal framework for the setting up of the national council of languages and the Moroccan culture.

The participants in the meeting also discussed the means to promote all forms of Amazigh artistic and literary creation and to ensure the presence of Amazigh constituent in all committees of the ministry, notably those relating to Morocco’s book prize.

The two sides also agreed on the principle of holding regular meetings to ensure the follow-up of forthcoming projects, the statement added.

The meeting brought together a panoply of Amazigh researchers and intellectuals as ell as the Amazigh Observatory for Rights and Liberties, the Amiafa confederation of Amazigh association in central Morocco, Association Tamaynout, the Moroccan Association of Research and Cultural Exchange (AMREC), the Confederation of Amazigh association in southern Morocco, the Azta network, and Anaruz association.
