During a meeting in Rabat with Morocco’s House of Advisors Speaker Mohamed Cheikh Biadillah, the European official noted that good governance, the fight against counterfeiting of drugs and doping in the sports sector and against corruption can be the objective of coordination and joint action between Morocco and the Council, stressing that her visit to the kingdom aims to develop an action plan for the period (2012-2014) governing relations between the two parties.
She also stressed that Morocco can benefit greatly from a set of agreements between the Council countries (47 countries) to strengthen its presence within the European body, said a statement from Moroccan Lower House.
During the meeting, Biadillah gave an overview on the structural changes occurring in Morocco in the political, economic, socio-demographic, and cultural fields, making the country a unique model compared to other Arab and North African countries, particularly in the context of the Arab spring.
After recalling the historic royal speech of 9 March 2011 and new arrangements introduced by the new Constitution, Biadillah stressed that Morocco has managed a calm and smart democratic transition, thanks to the wisdom and foresight of HM King Mohammed VI.
He also recalled Morocco’s presence within some bodies of the European Union, stressing that the grant in June 2011 by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe of the Partner for democracy status to Moroccan Parliament will contribute to improving mechanisms of action of its institutions to conform to current standards within the EU.
