Rabat – The withdrawal of confidence from the UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for the Sahara, Christopher Ross, does not mean that Morocco will give up negotiations, Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani said.
Morocco fully complies with the UN resolutions and continues to work closely with the UN Secretary General and the permanent Security Council members and the international community friends, El Otmani said at a show broadcasted by Al Oula TV channel.
The stands and statements of Ross were neither fair nor impartial, noted the Minister, adding that the Personal Envoy’s latest report did not bring any added value to the talks and attempted to cross Morocco’s “redlines”.
El Otmani also shed light on Morocco’s efforts to find a lasting and mutually acceptable settlement to the artificial dispute over the Sahara through presenting in 2007 an autonomy proposal that was welcomed by key world powers and described in the Security Council resolutions as “serious and credible”.
Morocco supported the efforts led by Christopher Ross to pursue negotiations which were launched thanks to Morocco’s moderate and open stand that aims at finding a political solution, underscored El Otmani.
