Conference of Parliamentarian Women in Arab World and Africa

Khartoum – The Second Conference of the Parliamentarian Women in the Arab World and Africa began Sunday in Khartoum with participation of delegations from South Africa, Egypt, Bahrain, Morocco, Algeria, Yemen, Jordan, Gabon, Burundi, Ethiopia, Mauritania, Madcasqar, Zimbabwe, Chad, the African and the Arab League.

The opening sitting was addressed by the President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir, Chairman of the Council of State, Gen. Adam Hamid Musa, the Chairwoman of the Parliamentarian Women Committee in Africa and the Arab World, Engineer Widad Yaqoub, and the Secretary General of the Senate and Shura Assemblies, Abdul-Wasie Yousif.

The second sitting of the conference, due to be presented by Awatif Al-Jaali, will discuss a paper on Women Legislations and another one to be presented by Dr. Babiker Mohamed Toam on the Role of Parliamentarian Women for Realizing Social and Economic Development.

The participants at the conference will be taken in a tour in Khartoum State Sunday evening.

On Monday, the fourth sitting will discuss a paper on the Role of Parliamentarian Women for Realizing Peace and Security in the Arab World and Africa, due to be presented by Dr. Joseph Chillengi.

The fifth sitting will review the experiences of the participating countries, prior to issuing the final communiqué.

The First Vice – President of the Republic, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, will address the concluding sitting of the conference.
