Rabat – President of the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH) Driss El Yazami stressed, on Thursday in Rabat, the need for updating human rights education in the Arab world with a view to consolidating the achievements and meeting the challenges of democracy promotion.

Speaking at a regional conference on the role of human rights education in the current Arab political current context, El Yazami said this approach aims at protecting fundamental rights and individual and collective freedoms, in addition to encouraging political participation, entrenching the values of citizenship and gender equalities and ensuring the independence of the judiciary.

El Yazami deemed that fostering democracy and the rule of law in the Arab world will be incomplete in the absence of a consensus between the various components of Arab societies on human rights’ principles and values.
