China and Morocco have agreed to accelerate negotiations to establish a center for traditional Chinese medicine in Casablanca, the Moroccan economic hub.

The announcement was made Thursday during a meeting in Rabat between the Moroccan Minister of Health, Anass Doukkali, and the deputy director of China’s National Health Commission, Yu Xuejun.

The center will be a “reference” for African countries under the Belt and Road Initiative, said a statement of the Moroccan health ministry.

The move is to provide Chinese medicine care for local people, train Moroccan and African doctors, and promote scientific research, the statement said.

China expressed it’s willingness to develop cooperation with Morocco in the fields of “telemedicine, digital health, mobile health, and traditional medicine,” it added.
