Catherine Ashton in Morocco MondayRabat – The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission, Catherine Ashton, is expected in Morocco on Monday for a working visit, the EU Delegation in Rabat announced on Saturday in a statement.

During her visit, the first to the Kingdom, Mrs Ashton is scheduled to hold talks with Moroccan officials, the statement added.
The visit is part of the special partnership between the EU and Morocco and the various projects launched in the political and commercial areas.

“The European Union strongly supports Morocco’s political and economic reforms and is keenly following the implementation of the new Constitution, whether with regard to the justice reform or the new provisions relating to human rights,” the statement said.

It noted that the Kingdom is a major beneficiary of EU funds in the region, with more than six billion dirhams of donations for the period 2011-2013.

Regional integration in the Maghreb, the security situation in the Sahel and the changes taking place in the Southern Mediterranean region over the past year will also be discussed during Mrs Ashton’s meetings with the Moroccan officials, the statement concluded.
