New York , Oct 7, 2011 – The Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM) voiced, on Thursday in New York, support for a “just, political, lasting and mutually acceptable solution” to the Sahara conflict.
CARICOM member states support “the ongoing talks between the parties as well as the call of the Security Council in resolution 1979 to continue negotiations under the auspices of the UN without preconditions and in good faith with a view to finding a politica, just, lasting and mutually acceptable solution,” Jamaican Ambassador said before the UN General Assembly’s 4th Committee.
CARICOM backs the efforts led by UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy Christopher Ross and calls on the parties to show a spirit of compromise and serious engagement.
“We hope that the upcoming informal talks will pave the way for a substantive negotiating phase between the parties,” said the Jamaican diplomat who was speaking on behalf of the CARICOM members.
