Rabat – Canada’s Ambassador in Rabat Christopher Wilkie affirmed, on Friday, that his country is very upbeat about the conclusion of a free trade agreement with Morocco “which offers a gateway to African and European markets.”

In a statement to “Assahara Al Maghribia” daily, Wilkie said that economic ties between Morocco and the EU are similar to those linking Canada with the US, which is “an asset that would enhance the particular trade relations” between his country and Morocco.

He lauded the choice of Canada as the guest of honor of the 7th International Agriculture Fair (SIAM) in Meknes, which will run until April 29, adding that the participation of Canadian agriculture minister Gerry Ritz in this edition shows the interest Canada takes in the Kingdom.

The participation of 18 economic operators is also a strong signal of the Canadian investors’ will to open on the Moroccan market, he noted.
