Atlas Lions coach believe his team can make a good impact in the African Cup of Nations 2012

Morocco coach Eric Gerets faces the facts by stating that his team still needs to improve, but also claims they can impress in the African Cup of Nations 2012 that will kick-off Saturday.

“We made some steps forward but the players need to understand that we are still half way. It was easy to reach the finals, but the hard part is yet to come. If we can improve by 20 per cent we can make a good CAN,” the Belgian tactician told Moroccan radio station, RMC.

The Atlas Lions are back to Africa’s top competition after missing out the previous edition. They last impressed in CAN during the 2004 edition when they reached the final game only to lose to hosts Tunisia 2-1.

“There are high expectations for us, but we don’t have a lot of pressure because we set our sights on the top four. Basically: if we don’t cross any catastrophic circumstances, we should make a good CAN,” he added.

The former African Champions 1976 will play with Tunisia, Gabon and Niger in Group C.
