Campaigning Across an Ancient Land
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 22, 2012
Internet start-up, 10KWEB, announces that its membership has expanded into Egypt. This marks the third North African country to join 10KWEB after Tunisia and Morocco. Egypt stands out among its neighbors in both age and population. Its recorded history dates back over five thousand years and its eighty-plus million citizens make it the most heavily-populated nation on the African continent.
Egypt boasts one of the most diversified economies in the Middle East. Twelve per cent of its population works solely within the booming Tourism Industry. Other industries include agriculture, Petroleum & Natural Gas and Textiles. In addition, the recent political uprisings in Egypt resulted in the ousting of longtime President, Hosni Mubarek, and a widespread restructuring of the country’s political system.
It is the economic power and recent political changes that 10KWEB Co-Founder, Anthony Martins, is most excited about, saying, “The industries of Egypt are perfect for what 10KWEB has to offer. As are the changes within the country itself. 10KWEB offers a low-cost means for Egypt’s people to blog about their interests, both professionally and politically, as well as share their unique and storied histories, to the world at large.”
As of 2011, over twenty-six per cent of Egypt’s total population had regular Internet access. Under Mubarek’s rule, the Internet was considered only “partly free” in term of access to information and censorship. During the 2011 uprising, the government effectively shut down Internet access to eighty-eight per cent of the country. In the aftermath of the uprising, civilians cautiously hope for greater freedom of speech and expression, especially in terms of online activity.
10KWEB was created January 2012 by Anthony Martins and Thomas Bang as an online resource for aspiring blog writers and small business owners. Their website launched on March 5th, 2012 and is currently used in the United States, Mexico, Great Britain, Germany, China, Morocco, Tunisia, Italy, Brazil, Argentina and New Zealand with more markets in development.
