Montreal – The world’s third-largest aerospace manufacturer, Bombardier Aerospace, announced its intention to build a new aerospace factory in Morocco with investments amounting to $200 million dollars in equipment, buildings and start-up costs over the next eight years.

Montreal-based Bombardier said that it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Moroccan government to build the plant in stages staring from next year without specifying the exact location yet.

The project, which was announced at the Dubai Air Show, will initially include sub-assembly capabilities for simple structures.

Morocco provides lower manufacturing, shipping and transportation costs, proximity to Europe and a commitment from the government to develop the country’s aerospace industry, said Guy Hachey, Bombardier’s President and Chief Operating Officer.

Manufacturing is scheduled to start in 2013. Details of the type of components to be made in Morocco will be finalized in the coming months.
