Algerian terror leader Mokhtar Belmokhtar “blew himself up after the death of (Abdelhamid) Abou Zeid, AFP quoted the president of Chad as saying Sunday (April 14th).
“We have proof of his death,” Idriss Deby said in a TV5/RFI/Le Monde interview recorded in N’Djamena on Saturday.
Chad announced last month that the militant had been killed during fierce fighting in the Ifoghas mountain region, near Mali’s border with Algeria.
Deby also said that al-Qaeda’s French hostageswere likely no longer in Mali.
Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) holds seven of 15 French citizens kidnapped by terrorist groups in Africa.
