The company compared the price of visas and airport tax in destinations popular with British tourists, including Australia, Hong Kong, India, Mauritius and the US.

Of the 21, ten require visas for entry, with China the most expensive. China charges £30 for a single entry visa, as well as a £36-£54 handling fee, depending on whether regular, express or postal service is required.

In contrast, Dubai and Mauritius offer visas free of charge.

APH said that, in terms of airport or departure taxes, Australia was the most expensive, with its Passenger Movement Charge and Airport Passenger Service Charge costing a combined £56.40.

Kenya and Brazil are also expensive at £25.63 and £22.16 respectively, while Canada (£3.16), India (£4) and Morocco (£2.20) are among the cheapest.

Holidaymakers flying out of Spain must now pay total tax of £14.40, following a £6 increase in departure tax in June, introduced by the Spanish government in a bid to help cut its budget deficit.

The research also found that most airport taxes are included in the price of the international airfare. However, Mauritius charges passengers £10 as they leave the country, and at some Canadian airports there is a charge on departure although at others it is included in the flight price.

APH offers parking at all major UK airports as well as airport hotels packaged with parking and airport lounges.
