Rabat – The UN human rights body, the Human Rights Council (HRC), adopted, on Thursday, a resolution, initiated by Morocco on behalf of the Arab group, requesting the General Assembly to lift the suspension of Libya’s rights of membership in the Council.
Morocco was the first country to call for Libya¹s reintegration in the Geneva-based HRC during a speech by Ambassador Omar Hilale at the opening of the 18th session of the Council on September 12, Morocco’s permanent mission to Geneva said in a statement.
To that end, Morocco prepared, in close collaboration with the Libyan delegation to Geneva, a draft resolution recommending the General Assembly to lift its suspension of Libya¹s rights of membership in the Council.
This move stems from Morocco¹s commitment to help Libya regain its stature among nations through its legitimate representatives, added the statement, recalling that Morocco spared no effort to support the Libyan brotherly people to achieve its legitimate aspirations and backed the initiatives of the National Transitional Council (NTC) at the national and international levels.
