Assilah – The 34th international cultural festival (Moussem) of Assilah, held by the Assilah Forum Foundation, opened on Friday with the participation of prominent figures from the realms of culture, diplomacy, politics, arts and media.
Held under the high patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, this year’s edition opened with a conference on the momentum in the Mediterranean region with the crisis in the northern shores and uprisings in the south.
In a speech at the opening, Secretary General of the Assilah Forum Foundation, Mohamed Benaissa, underscored the festival’s growing reputation as a venue for different ideas, perceptions and cultures.
Other conferences will be held as part of the festival on such themes as the Maghreb, women and democracy in the region, the role of the elites in reinvigorating the Maghreb.
A tribute will also be paid to Mohamed Larbi Messari, a renowned intellectual, politician and journalist.
The festival also features artistic exhibitions and concerts as well as workshops on different arts benefiting children.
