Salé – The criminal chamber in charge of terror cases at the Appeals court of Salé sentenced, on Friday in appeal, the two chief accused in the terrorist blast which hit Argana in Marrakech, Adil Athmani and Hakim Dah, to the death penalty.
The court upheld the death penalty pronounced by the court of first instance against Adil Athmani and increased the sentence of accomplice Hakim Dah.
The two accused stood trial on charges of “forming a criminal gang to prepare terrorist acts, premeditated murder, unlawfully possessing and making explosives as part of collective project aimed at seriusly undermining public order through intimidation, holding unauthorized public meetings and exercising activities within an unlawful association”.
The court also increased the prison sentence of 4 to 10 years against four accused on charges of “forming a criminal gang to prepare and carry out terrorist acts aimed at seriously undermining public order through terror, intimidation and violence, inciting others to commit terror acts, exercising activities within an unlawful association and holding unauthorized public meetings”.
Moreover, it increased the sentence of 2 to 10 years in prison against two other defendents and upheld the two-year prison sentence against another.
The bombing, which had rippled through the Argana café in the city’s main square last April, had killed 17 people.
