Hassan Abdul Haq – Moroccan Ambassador in Jordan
Jordan and Morocco’s longstanding ties can be a role model for pan-Arab relations, Moroccan Ambassador in Jordan Hassan Abdul Haq said on Sunday.
Speaking at a press conference, the Moroccan diplomat underlined the distinguished ties between the two countries, which he said have common visions on regional and international affairs and are in constant coordination.
“Our two countries are tied up in over 60 agreements, protocols, executive programmes and memoranda of understanding covering economic, technical and cultural aspects of cooperation,” he said.
“This reflected positively on the level of trade cooperation, where Jordan’s exports to Morocco grew between 2007 and 2011 by more than 300 per cent against a 23 per cent increase in Moroccan exports to Jordan,” the ambassador said, adding that the two countries are currently working to address obstacles in order to further boost joint cooperation.
Morocco today celebrates the 13th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s accession to the throne. His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday sent a cable to King Mohammed VI congratulating him on the occasion, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
“Since his accession to the throne, the King vowed to empower democracy in the country as well as reform at all levels,” Abdul Haq said, citing the constitutional amendments Morocco passed by referendum last year after 98.49 per cent of voters voted in favour.
The ambassador added that Morocco has believed in democracy and public participation in the political process as a way of life since the country’s independence in 1956.
