In Acre, mayor says city is symbol of coexistence.
The 2nd international Arabesque Festival will take place June 11-15 at the Hospitaller Fortress in Acre, Israel, featuring classic Arabic and Andalusian music with local and foreign artists, in particular from Morocco.
Concerts on the programme include Moroccan-origin Israeli singers Raymonde Abecassis and Mike Karutchi; the Nazareth Orchestra with violinist Kamil Shragawi; and Arab singers Violet Salameh (who will sing songs by the famed Umm Kulthum) and Sanaa Marahati, coming to the festival from Morocco.
Two stars of oriental music in Israel, Sarit Haddad and Miri Messika, will participate at the festival.
Berber musicians from Marrakesh will perform in the streets of the Old City of Acre.
Acre Mayor Shimon Lankry said the city is a “symbol of coexistence”.
“It’s the best place to present the rich contribution made to the Israeli culture by classic Arabic music and Andalusian music,” Lankry said.(ANSAmed).
