Speaker of Kuwaiti National Assembly Ali Fahad Al-Rashed discussed with President of the Moroccan House of Councilors Mohamed Cheikh Biadillah the parliamentary cooperation between their two countries here on Monday.
Al-Rashed, who leads a parliamentary delegation on a visit to the Kingdom of Morocco, said he asked Biadillah to convey the best wishes of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to King Mohammad VI.
“We weren’t able to have the honor of meeting His Majesty King Mohammad VI who is on an overseas trip,” he told reporters after talks.
“The meeting focused on the cooperation and experience sharing in the parliamentary field as well as the training of staffers of the two legislatures of both countries and issues of common concern,” Al-Rahed pointed out.
He recalled the “honorable” stance of the Kingdom of Morocco against the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990 and the support for Kuwait in the liberation war in the following year.
On his part, Biadillah welcomed the visit of the Kuwaiti delegation saying it provided an ample opportunity for cementing the historical ties in the parliamentary field.
“The two countries proved to be all-weather friends who exchange support when need be. Morocco supported Kuwait in her legitimate struggle during the ordeal of the Iraqi invasion while Kuwait constantly backs Morocco’s fair causes in the international forums,” he pointed out.
“Both countries defend the values of peace and rights so the parliaments of both countries hold identical views on the issues on the agendas of the coming meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Arab Inter-parliamentary Union (AIPU),” he went on.
“During today’s talks we asked the two parliamentary friendship committees to work out programs for experience sharing in the areas of parliamentary supervisory role over the government performance, joint training and visit exchanges,” Biadillah added.
He voiced hope that the current visit to Morocco by Al-Rashed and his party will contribute to strengthening the friendly ties in all domains, particularly the parliamentary one.
