Ghana Airbus Military C295
A military aircraft carrying Moroccan side Raja Casablanca from Sunyani to Accra had to make an emergency landing at the Takoradi Airport on Sunday night due to bad weather.
The flight contained 29 members of the Raja side, who were clobbered 5-0 by Berekum Chelsea in the CAF Champions League 1/16th stage first leg tie and five Ghana FA officials.
It took the pilot over 2 hours to land at the Takoradi military base for a flight which was suppose to take 55 minutes.
“It was very very scary and we didn’t know what was exactly happening but I understand the weather was very foggy the pilot had to redirect the flight and make a force landing in Takoradi,” an anonymous passenger told Sunyani-based Storm FM.
“Everyone was silent on board because there was nothing we could do in the air except the intervention of God and the pilot.
“We are now safe so we would be making the trip to Accra by bus and hopefully help the Raja team catch their flight early morning back to Morocco,” he added.
On 27 April 1993, a Zambian Air Force plane which was carrying the team to Senegal for a 1994 World Cup qualification match crashed, killing all 30 passengers, including 18 players in Libreville.
