AIESEC Manipal University organised ‘Global Village 2012’, at Manipal institute of Communication (MIC) and Department of Commerce (DOC) on 6th and 7th August respectively. As many as 28 interns from 12 countries namely; Poland, China, Brazil, Germany, Taiwan, Portugal, Italy, Afghanistan, Morocco, Czech Republic, Netherlands and Russia, showcased their culture at the two day event.
They put up stalls displaying show pieces, food, clothes, etc. native to their country. This event also concentrated on performances by interns who showcased their national culture by dancing and singing for the audience.
All the interns present for the event are here in Manipal to work on social developmental projects on sensitive issues such as environmental degradation, HIV AIDS, child rights, etc. Varadesh Hiregange, Director, Manipal Institute of Communication as well as Member, Board of Advisors, AIESEC Manipal University, told the AM Plus team, “Students from different parts of the world displaying their cultural diversities really made this Global Village a meaningful event. This kind of interaction and cultural exchange would be a step in the right direction. AIESEC should be congratulated on organising this and I would also like the interns that have come down to our country to experience the diversity of Indian culture.”
“The event was awesome. It’s the first time we’re hosting something of this magnitude in MIC. The enthusiasm displayed by everyone was very good to see. Besides it’s the first time we’re having so many interns at once for Global Village making this a good interactive opportunity.” said Vishant Kothari, Local Committee President, AIESEC Manipal University.
The event concluded with all AIESEC-ers engaging the crowd to shake a leg to their peppy ‘jives’. Sergio, an intern from Brazil said, “This is the best way to live ‘who lives in another culture, gains another soul.’ When you are a part of such an event, you can enjoy other cultures and you open your mind to all this because ultimately you need to be the difference you want to see around you.”
