Aerin Lauder launches her new brand, citing her grandmother Estee’s influences
Estee Lauder’s granddaughter, Aerin, will launch her own lifestyle brand this summer, and she reveals in Town & Country’s September issue, which hits newsstands Aug. 14, that despite her famous forebearers, she has always liked keeping things simple.

“Growing up I wore corduroys and Lacoste shirts, Maraolo flats, and maybe one gold bracelet,” she tells the magazine, which photographed her for this month’s stunning cover in the sands of Marrakech, Morocco. “My grandmother (Estee) gave me a credit card to Ann Taylor when I was 15, and I went and got cream-colored turtlenecks.”

The younger Lauder’s brand, simply named Aerin, will unveil small decorative objects for the holiday season, a home line in the spring, and soon thereafter, jewelry and other accessories.
“I’ve been in this business for so many years, and the question of what’s inside your makeup bag always came up. It became what’s in your closet, what’s on your desk, your dressing table,” she says.

Lauder says she sees her role as curator of the collection she calls “mistakeproof makeup” and as a friend and editor to the women who will buy it. She envisions it as a palette of beauty essentials that will help women feel “confident and pretty while balancing work, family, and home.”

The designer’s father, Ronald Lauder, was also present for the shoot. He stood in the desert with camels, wearing his tuxedo and Belgian loafers.
“I’m very proud of Aerin, and I believe that however proud I am, Estee would have been twice as proud,” he tells the magazine. “She was almost the same age as Aerin when she started, and I know that with Aerin’s knowledge in cosmetics and her fabulous sense of style and taste, her new line will be just as successful as her grandmother’s line was when she started almost 60 years ago.”
