ACE signs Tangiers Declaration

Step forward for international architecture bodies as Tangiers Declaration signed

The Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE) has signed an agreement with the Africa Union of Architects and Architects Regional Council ASIA (ARCASIA) to develop mutual multi- and bi-lateral cooperation between architecture organisations. Figureheads of the three major organisations met in March this year in Tangiers, Morocco to discuss how they may work in partnership to accurately represent the international architectural community.

Presidents of the three bodies signed the ‘Tangiers Declaration’ which outlines an initiative for rationalisation of international cooperation within the International Union of Architects (UIA). The ACE currently represents 520,000 architects and holds sway over certain EU legislation and policies from its base in Brussels.

The signing of the ‘Tangiers Declaration’ was preceded by a discussion about the current state of affairs in the global architectural community, with the three organisations calling on the UIA Council and the Vision and Strategy Committee to ‘continue working on concrete proposals to strengthen and include the existing regional architectural organisations in effective cooperation’.
