Academy Art Museum to ‘Paint the Town Moroccan’ this weekend
EASTON The Academy Art Museum’s annual Paint the Town Moroccan fundraiser will begin at 6 p.m. May 5 at the Avalon Theatre, with the enchanting music of the five key regions of Morocco.
Musician Ali Amir was born in Meknes, Morocco, and now lives in Casablanca. He plays Moroccan music with two key instruments: the oud/lute and the violin. Along with his band, Sounds of Morocco, he will showcase the regions of Morocco, including Gnaoua, sub-Saharan/African; Chaabi, a type of jazz; Berber, the most ancient and traditional; and Andalusian, a mix of Arabic and Jewish music.
Following the concert, guests will stroll to the Academy Art Museum where the party continues with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and contemporary Moroccan art. An authentic Moroccan dinner will be served under the tent.
Last year’s event raised more than $93,000 to support the Academy Art Museum’s mission to enhance cultural life on the Eastern Shore by making available to everyone the museum’s expanding collection, exhibitions, and broad spectrum of arts programs for dance, painting, music and more. The Museum’s ArtReach and Art to Go programs reach underserved populations on the Mid-Shore.
