The powerful Algerian military intelligence department (DRS) is reportedly behind a devilish plan that has been recently hatched by the Polisario leadership to destabilize Morocco.
While the deteriorating health condition of Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has again ignited the war of succession, the clan of the old generals is acting in the shadows to divert the Algerian public opinion’s attention to Western Sahara where they are trying to kindle tensions.
According to information from the Hassi Rabouni camp which hosts the Polisario headquarters, the objective of this plan is to lure young separatist Sahrawis and persuade them to provoke Moroccan security forces in the cities of Western Sahara to push these forces to their limits. Neighboring Algeria and the Polisario Front which have been very disappointed by the withdrawal of a U.S. draft resolution calling for expanding the MINURSO mandate to human rights monitoring in Western Sahara, now seek to increase tension in the disputed Western Sahara under Morocco’s control.
Since last Thursday, dozens of women and young Sahrawis have been fiercely attacking Moroccan law enforcement agents with stones and Molotov cocktails both in the cities of Laayoune, Boujdour and Samara and in the buffer zone where Polisario elements from the Tindouf camps sometimes creep in.
According to reliable information sources in Laayoune and other areas of Western Sahara, banknotes ranging from 20 to 500 Dirhams are distributed daily to these teenagers who are instructed to attack units of the Moroccan security forces and their vehicles, to tag walls with anti-Moroccan slogans and to brandish the flag of the Saharawi Republic (SADR). They are also asked to destroy and loot public buildings.
The leaders of the hordes regularly receive money transfers in foreign currency from abroad to finance the troublemakers, the sources said.
As an evidence of these secret financings, the Moroccan e-journal Hespress published on its website a very compromising Algerian official document.
In this document, a letter dated April 16, president of the Algerian National Committee of Solidarity with the Sahrawi people (CNASPS), Mohamed Lamari Mahreze, informs the Ambassador of SADR in Algiers Brahim Ghali, about “the financial support to be provided to the Sahrawis militants in the occupied territories “.
It is stated in this letter that the CNASPS “has decided to donate the requested amount to support the protest campaign that will be staged in the coming weeks by the Sahrawi resistance.”
And this is only the visible part of the iceberg. Actually some Algerian leaders and especially the dreadful and uncontrollable generals of the Intelligence and Security Department (DRS), benefit from the flowing oil returns to lavishly pay the many Western lobbyists working for the Algerian regime and the Sahrawi independence movement, including the American Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights.
The chairwoman of this foundation, Kerry Kennedy has just committed a blunder when she posted on the center’s website a video filmed in Sidi Bouzid in late 2010 at the start of the Tunisian upheaval claiming it depicts acts of violence committed by Morocco against the Sahrawi population in Laayoune.
Moreover, social networks have posted over the past few days footage showing two Amnesty International activists casting roles to young Sahrawis during a private meeting at the home of Sahrawi activist Aminatou Haidar in Laayoune.
Such acts raise a number of questions concerning neighboring Algeria as well as some international NGOs whose golden rule is supposed to be neutrality.
