WALKING the walk is not only a good philosophy, it’s a way of life for first-time author Julie Mundy.

The former aid worker from St Kilda East has hiked in lands as diverse as Iceland, Turkey, Morocco, England, Scotland and Thailand.

Now the mother-of-two has turned her attention to Melbourne, producing a 200-page paperback called Melbourne’s Best Bush, Bay and City Walks. It includes more than 40 walks, from easy trails for families to the tough Mt Dandenong summit.

There are foodie walks in Carlton, art and heritage walks in the city and walks taking in St Kilda landmarks along with comprehensive maps, distances, facilities and highlights.

Ms Mundy spent a year researching walks via members of walking clubs, searching green spots on Melway maps and using Parks Victoria resources.

She then donned her walking boots and set out with family and friends to test them.

“I’ve lived in Melbourne 12 years and hadn’t done a huge amount of walking … but I have now,” Ms Mundy said.

Melbourne’s Best Bush, Bay and City Walks is $29.95.
