There is another sign that winter has arrived in the Northland even if the snow hasn’t. The final saltie of the 2011 shipping season left the Twin Ports on Monday night.

The Erieborg arrived very early Sunday morning to load beet pulp pellets at the General Mills elevator in Duluth. She’ll be bringing that cargo to Morocco.

According to the Duluth Seaway Port Authority, laker traffic in the harbor will continue for about a month until the Sault Locks close on January 15.
