GOLF ROUND-UP

BRIDGEND golfer Rhys Davies finished his second season as a professional on the European Tour with a tie for 48th place in the lucrative Dubai World Championship presented by DP World at the Jumeirah Golf Estates.

Rounds of 73, 73, 69 and 77 gave him a four-over-par total of 292 and he won 26,019 Euros.

It has been a year of consolidation for the 26-year-old Davies after an amazing rookie season in which he won his first tournament in Morocco.

Now he can enjoy a well deserved break before dusting off his clubs early in the new year.

PENCOED putter Lydia Hall is in action this week in the final event of the Ladies European Tour.

Hall goes in the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters Championship at the Emirates Golf Club and needs a decent finish to retain her card for next season.

Southerndown’s Sahra Hassan was 13th reserve for the tournament and unlikely to get a start which means she will be heading for the Qualifying School at La Manga in Spain from January 8 to 11.

BRIAN Callow scored 35 points to win the annual Turkey Trot Stableford competition staged by St Mary’s Senior Section.

Played over 16 holes, the runner-up was Gareth Jones with 34 points and third place went to Roy Denton who scored 33 points.

DANIEL Evans scored 42 points and took first place in the 11th round of the Leon Warne Order of Merit at the Grove on a back nine card count from second placed David Thomas who also returned 42 points.

In third place came Colin Rumbelow who had the best back nine of those with 39 points.

Twos were scored by Geraint Jones, Matthew Davies, Ged Rave (2), Norman Vincent, Will Griffiths, David Thomas, Dave Dowrick and Brian Thornton.
